The Story Bridge is a heritage-listed steel cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River that carries vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the northern and the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. At 74m high, and 777m long, the Story Bridge is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia.
The bridge is part of the Bradfield Highway and connects Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point. The Story Bridge opened in 1940 and is named after prominent public servant, John Douglas Story.
The Eleanor Schonell Bridge, better known as the Green Bridge, is a 390m long cable-stayed bridge which crosses the Brisbane River between Dutton Park and the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, connecting the UQ Lakes and Dutton Park Place busway stations.
Its deck is 185m long, 20m wide and about 18 m above the river’s surface. The bridge was opened on 17 December 2006 and is the first bridge in Australia exclusively designed for buses, cyclists and pedestrians.
In November 2023, Constructionarium Australia built Australia’s first working pumped hydro project in Brisbane. The Pumped Hydro project is a pioneering initiative set to implement a small-scaled pumped hydro storage system using solar power, twin water tank, and a turbine. The pumped hydro structure is designed to provide power to new lighting systems for our iconic Story Bridge and Eleanor Schonell Bridge structures.
